Let's print a liver...

It seems like only a few months ago that I was made aware of the technology of 3D printing, an incredible development that makes it possible to 'print' the components for gadgets and other pieces of equipment.

That in and of itself sounds pretty amazing...

The idea that given the technical specifications it is possible to print all the compoments you might need for your food blender or vacuum or...

Well now it seems that it is not only possible to 3D print with plastic or other synthetic materials but also organic tissue. This means that it is theoretically possible to 'print' human organs and using stem cells engineer working organs which can be used for transplants.

The technology, still in its infancy, could promote a revolution in transplant surgery effectively removing concerns about rejection of donor organs and even the need for human donors.
